Game Of Thrones, the medieval fantasy epic is now in it’s 4th season which starts on 6th April 2014. If you haven’t seen the program, where have you been?!? (It’s averaging 9.5/10 on IMDB which is pretty good)

Set in the fictional world of Westeros, the fictional universe features feuding families struggling for power which is echoed with the onset of a physical winter. This all coincides with the return of fabled dragons and magic.

Let’s look at the top 5 reasons why you should get on the bandwagon and watch the amazing, epic, romantic, action-packed, funny, intelligent, thrilling and mysterious fantasy drama:

1. Great Characters

Tired of the stereo-typical Hollywood cut and paste lead character? The hansom, troubled background anti hero? Or the clichéd White Messiah complex? Then Game of Thrones is the show for you. The show is jam packed with morally ambiguous characters, fleshed out female characters, and a few hard men thrown in for good measure.

2. Epic Story Writing

The shows complex interweaving story lines draws a lot of viewers in and turns them into fans. George R. R. Martin has created an immersive fantasy world based on kings, queens, knights and lords however, the shows characters often don’t behave very nobly at all.

The audience is given everything it could want in a story, truly something for everyone. It has the teen coming of age story, the troubled romance, the complexity of war and honour, thriller, action/adventure and comedy. (Apologies if I’ve left any out, leave a comment if you can think of any more)

3. Anything Can Happen

Literally anything can happen! With Game of Thrones set in a world with dragon skeletons, snow zombies and pony sized wolves, the show also dis-regards the age old cliché of the good guy always wins.

The books (A Song of Ice and Fire, A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons and the forthcoming The Winds of Winter and The Dream of Spring) written by George R. R. Martin which the show is based on have been praised for it’s refreshing view on main characters. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but basically, heads will roll! (by now, you’ve probably already heard of the infamous Red Wedding)

4. Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister, son of Tywin is reason enough to watch Game Of Thrones. The quick witted, wine guzzling and horny dwarf, otherwise known as Imp, half-man and even abomination has some classic one-liners which will quickly make him one of your favourite characters. Here are a few to wet your appetite…

“It’s not easy being drunk all the time. Everyone would do it, if it were easy”

“Drinking and lust, no man can match me in these things. I am the god of t*ts and wine”

How Tyrion would like to die – “In my own bed, at the age of 80, with a belly full of wine and a girls mouth around my c**k”

5. Boobs

If the other 4 reasons to watch Game Of Thrones still leaves you feeling limp, then Game of Thrones offers something a little extra. But what’s missing from most high budget film, TV and play productions? Boobs of course.

Most episodes of the show have a fair bit nudity, so much so that you feel ripped off if one of them doesn’t. The way it’s presented lets you watch it with your partner and not feel like you’ve accidentally switched on the naughty channels. If watching with Mum and Dad, it is about 40% awkward but that is a small price to pay considering. There are plenty of hunky men too, so it’s an all round drool-fest.
