World Premiere of First Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer

The First Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was released on the 18th of Feb. The Latest Marvel comic book series turned feature film should be in cinemas August 2014.

The intergalactic Sci/Fi adventure film looks big budget, funny and completely crazy, featuring a talking tree and raccoon.

What’s in the trailer

The trailer gives away very little in way of story line. It mainly focus’s on introducing the main characters, with a sprinkling of action and jokes.

The trailer starts with Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt entering what looks like futuristic tomb and attempts to steal a floating orb.

He is then arrested and taken to some sort of prison where the other main characters are introduced. This is done with a prison line-up scene comically performed by John C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz. They introduce Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel)

The trailer continues with Quill confronting an alien prison guard who is listening to his walk-man. Quite a bazaar thing to include in a trailer? According to the Director James Gunn, it’s his one connection to earth he left behind.

The trailer concludes with some rapid clips including a space fighter scene, explosions, Rocket and Groot going postal in a prison, glimpses of the villains and Quinn with his top off looking badass.

Characters

Peter Quill looks like the main character as the trailer focus on him. He is reminiscent of Han Solo from the Star Wars films with his criminal and comical combination.

Chris Pratt who plays Quill has comedic roots in the very funny TV show Parks and Recreation and more recently he voiced Emmet in the brilliant Lego Movie. Pratt has previously played a Navy Seal on Zero Dark Thirty so he should hold his own in the action scenes.

Drax The Destroyer looks angry has heck in the trailer, and with good reason too. The trailer explains he is on a violent rampage, seeking revenge for his murdered family.

In the Marvel comics, Drax was created from the soul of a human who’s family is murdered by Thanos. This may or may not be the case for the 2014 film, but we know that Thanos was the baddie at the end of the Avengers Assemble film., it’s something to look out for in any case.

Gamora is a green skinned assassin played by Zoe Saldana who also plays Neytiri in Avatar and Uhura in the rebooted Star Trek films, showing that Saldana has a real Sci/Fi pedegree.

The only things we see Rocket Raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper do in the trailer is spit on the floor and fire a machine-gun in a prison. It will be interesting to see what sort of character he is when the film is released in August.

Groot voiced by Vin Diesel we see in the prison scene throwing some guy in a rage but is decried by the director as being 100% sweet and 100% deadly. The trailer describes him as being Rocket’s personal house plant / muscle. So maybe we can expect some raccoon/tree bromance in the film.

Final Thoughts

Marvel seem to be taking a risk creating a big budget blockbuster with this seemingly unfamiliar comic book series. Especially considering their success with the individual superhero films like The Amazing Spider Man and with the team up of The Avengers.

The timing of Guardians of the Galaxy being released between the first and second Avengers films suggests there may be some cross over between the two. If Marvels track record of interlinking comic book films is anything to go by, it can be expected.
